Search engine optimization articles

Search Engine Optimization article writing, or SEO Writing for short, is changing the way the rules of English are applied for better or for worse.  If you want to be successful online you have to learn to adapt.  If you do heavy writing for non SEO avenues it is a fine balance between not letting your SEO article writing interfere with the every day rules of writing you might apply elsewhere.  As you probably know, Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion (such as using Google Adwords).   I have previously touched on writing well, even when writing for SEO.  I am not trying to steer away from that message either.  You can write well while still writing articles that attract attention.

So why do I infer that online SEO writing is different from other venues? Well when writing online articles you want to generally keep paragraphs short. Long paragraphs tend to scare readers away.

Notice I am talking about the same thing in this paragraph. Had I written an actual term paper or article for an online newspaper (they also tend to want short paragraphs, but perhaps not as short as those geared towards SEO marketing online). this would likely be part of the paragraph above.

Of course you might wonder why my first paragraph was so long. That is an exception to the rule particular for Hubpages. It allows for particular ad placement for Google Adsense.

In general though keep your paragraphs short.

Creative Writing

You can use key phrases, while still writing relevant, creative content. You just have to be crafty in how you put it together. Many people do not want to take the time to do such a thing, but in the end keywords can only draw people in, while the quality keeps them coming back.

Keep playing with putting keywords together until you get a phrase that is both SEO friendly as well as makes clear, concise sense to the reader.  Even if you have to take something that draws slightly less traffic or the highest paying ads sometimes, err towards readability.

Put yourself in the reader's shoes.  Would you be happy if you clicked on a link and you saw a bunch of sentences that made no sense or just a string of words aimed at suckering you in? Exactly, you would not!

In Summation

Keep those paragraphs brief, except first paragraphs on Hubpages and provide good content while using the key phrases you have come up with from your keyword research.

Oh, and always proof read for grammar and spelling errors before publishing, whether for SEO or not.
